Come per le due edizioni precedenti, anche quest’anno unonell’unico parteciperà al Todi Festival, manifestazione curata da Silvano Spada, proponendo la mostra ISABELLA ANGELANTONI GEIGER: Dancing Flower.
L’esposizione, che sarà visibile per tutta la durata del Festival, fino al 30 agosto, sarà inaugurata Sabato 22 Agosto 2015 alle ore 18:00 presso lo spazio espositivo unonell’unico di via Mercato Vecchio 16, a Todi (Pg).
La scelta di proporre Isabella Angelantoni Geiger, scultrice di origini umbre, cresciuta a Milano, persegue l’intento di Carlo Primieri – ideatore dello spazio – di promuovere e valorizzare gli artisti che hanno contribuito allo sviluppo culturale della città di Todi, rendendola punto di riferimento e di ritrovo per artisti e intellettuali.
Interessata fin dalla sua giovinezza alla creazione di ambienti e spazi da vivere – da qui la sua formazione di architetto urbanista – l’autrice passa alla scultura inconsciamente rendendo tridimensionali e materiche quelle che fino a quel momento erano solo idee e progetti architettonico-urbanistici. Città immaginate, palazzi ed edifici pensati nella mente, divengono in un momento peculiare e significativo della sua vita, delle costruzioni reali che si proiettano nello spazio con la loro fisicità. Dall’idea all’oggetto reale, stravolto e privato però di tutta la sua componente “terrena e reale”. Costruzioni leggere e leggiadre che si librano nello spazio quasi fossero ancora delle immaginazioni. Due realtà che rimangono sempre attive e che si compenetrano a vicenda, in quanto le sculture sono loro stesse delle città fantastiche, accennate e in potenziale. Non è un caso che il libro al quale la scultrice si ispira sia proprio Le città invisibili di Italo Calvino e parallelamente alle sculture armonico-musicali e filiformi di Fausto Melotti. Diomira, Zobeide, Procopia, Ersilia, Eudossia, sono solo alcune delle sue creazioni ispirate alle città invisibili di Calvino. “Leggerezza pensosa” di cui si è appropriata Isabella Angelantoni Geiger che ambisce – come lei stessa afferma in un suo scritto – a voler fluttuare nell’aria, a nuotare nel vuoto, alla ricerca della realtà: una realtà che vada oltre la sua rappresentazione e la contingenza.
Leggero e delicato è anche il materiale impiegato – fili di metallo, di cotone e carta, colorati con acrilico bianco o nero – che delineano le linee dei suoi pensieri. Come l’antica tradizione merlettaia delle donne di Città di Castello e umbre, la scultrice tesse e ricama i suoi pensieri e il mondo che la circonda con la speranza di una nuova rigenerazione.
Leggerezza e sospensione sono i temi che caratterizzano l’unica opera esposta nella micro galleria: Dancing Flower. La scultura, realizzata nel 2015 in acrilico bianco, fluttua nel fornice antico amalgamandosi ai colori terrosi delle pietre romane e medievali che caratterizzano il piccolissimo ambiente archeologico. Assimilando la lezione di Alexander Calder, Bruno Munari e Beverly Pepper nella scultura in ferro e acciaio Mobile esposta nel 1962 a Spoleto in occasione di Sculture nelle Città a cura di Carandente, realizza una’opera mobile, rotante e fluttuante che mantiene quella delicatezza ed eleganza tipica dei suoi lavori.
Isabella Angelantoni Geiger, nasce a Milano. Vive e lavora tra Milano e Massa Martana.
Laureata alla Facoltà di Architettura del Politecnico di Milano, collabora con prestigiosi studi di architettura di Milano.
Nel corso degli anni, parallelamente all’attività professionale che la conduce ad approfondire gli aspetti legati alle grandi trasformazioni territoriali e alla riqualificazione urbana, avvia la sua indagine personale sul rapporto tra il segno e lo spazio. Dopo un’iniziale esperienza rivolta alla grafica, al disegno e alla realizzazione di opere tessili, l’autrice si orienta verso l’esplorazione delle tecniche legate alle metamorfosi spaziali e alle sue deformazioni grazie alla manipolazione del filo di ferro e di metallo, fili di cotone e carta che le permettono di riscoprire la tridimensionalità propria del lavoro di architetto.

As per the previous two editions, unonell’unico will participate in the Todi Festival, an event organized by Silvano Spada, with the exhibit of ISABELLA ANGELANTONI GEIGER: Dancing Flower.
The exhibit will be visible for the duration of the Festival until the 30th of August and the inauguration will take place on Saturday 22nd of August 2015 at 18:00 at unonell’unico exhibit space at Via Mercato Vecchio 16, Todi (Pg).
Isabella Angelantoni Geiger is a sculptress of Umbrian origins and was raised in Milan. The selection of her artwork for this event reflects the intention of the creator of this space, Carlo Primieri, which is to promote and highlight artists that have contributed to the cultural development of Todi, making it a reference point and meeting place for artists and intellectuals.
The artist was interested in the creation of living environments and spaces from a young age, hence her training as an architect specialized in urban planning. She then unconsciously moved on to creating sculptures which materialized and brought three-dimensionality to what had previously been merely ideas and architectural-urbanistic designs. Imagined cities, buildings and palaces conjured in the mind in a particular and significant moment in her life become real entities brought to life.
An idea becomes a real object, and yet is stripped of its “earthly and real” components. Light and graceful constructions are created and appear almost as if they were still objects of imagination. The real and the imagined intermingle given that the sculptures are imagined cities that are alluded to and full of potential. It is no coincidence that the artist’s inspiration was the “The Invisible Cities” by Italo Calvino as well as the harmonic-musical and wire scultptures by Fausto Mellotti. Diomira, Zobeide, Procopia, Ersilia, Eudossia, are only a few of her creations inspired by Calvino’s invisible cities. Isabella Angelantoni Gieger has embraced Calvino’s concept of “thoughtful lightness” and she has written about her desire to feel carried by winds, float in the air and swim in the void to find reality: a reality which goes beyond its representation and circumstance.
The material she uses is also light and delicate – metal wire, cotton thread and paper, colored with black and white acrylic- which trace the lines of her thoughts. Just like the women of Umbria and Città di Castello, who used ancient techniques of needlework and lacemaking, Isabella sews together her thoughts and the world that surrounds her with the hope of a new regeneration.
Lightness and suspension are the themes that characterize the piece hanging in the micro-gallery: Dancing Flower. The piece, created in 2015, in white acrylic, floats in the ancient archway, blending in with the earthly colors of the roman and medieval stones of this small archeological space. The mobile structure rotates and floats, maintaining the delicate and elegant qualities typical of the artist’s work. At the same time it recalls the lessons from Alexander Calder, Bruno Munari and even Beverly Pepper, whose iron and steel sculpture, Mobile, which appeared in the Sculptures in the City exhibit in 1962 in Spoleto, curated by Carandente.
Isabella Angelantoni Geiger, was born in Milan and works and lives in Milan and Massa Martana.
She has a degree in Architecture from the Polytechnical Institute of Milan and worked with several prestigious architectural firms in Milan.
In addition to her professional work, which led her to examine issues relating to territorial transformation and urban renewal, her personal interests led her to explore the relation between lines and space. After her early experiences in graphics, design and working with textiles, her current works explore themes regarding spatial transformations and deformation. By working with metal and wire, she is able to rediscover the three-dimensional aspects of architecture.
